The story is a ‘slice of life’ look into how far women have really come, how one woman handles the trials faced in the turbulence of show business and how she chooses to divine guidance.
Award-winning author, Tricia Stewart Shiu, draws from her extensive experience as a veteran, high-level executive assistant at one of the top six entertainment studios in Los Angeles.
2. Why should this novel be read by people?
Not only does PLEASE HOLD offer a rare glimpse into the world of top tier gatekeepers, it also serves as a reminder that spirituality comes in many forms and no one should judge another before knowing the full story. Everyone’s journey to her own truth is layered and we all choose our path based on the highest form of guidance available. As we grow, so does our guidance.

Quirky & Illuminating

It’s a tie between
A Portrait of An Artist by James Joyce
Generation X by Douglas Coupland
7. What motivated you to write this novel?
I watched a documentary about the women’s movement in the 1970s and the Equal Rights Amendment and was inspired to write about my own experiences (in fictional form, of course) working with some of the most influential executives in the entertainment industry.
8. What artist would you love to have dinner with?
Jeff Lynne
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Human Rights, Self-Healing, Spiritual and Personal Growth.
10. What influenced you to enter the Novel Festival?
My publicist Scott Lorenz.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Stay passionate and connected to the source of your idea. Your plot, characters and details may make their own journey, but if you are connected to the initial reason for writing the book, article, screenplay or script (and why you write in general) you will retain a sense of authenticity. This will carry you through any challenges that arise.

Best Margarita in Los Angeles, California
Ah, tequila. You either love it or have some really good
stories about when you loved it—once upon a time. Either way, you know how
refreshing, crisp and—um—transformative a tasty margarita can be. This drink
was named in 1948 after socialite Margarita Sames. The story goes something
like this: Ms. Sames created her signature cocktail during an especially hot
summer soirée and her concoction kept the party going for two weeks.
Go Margarita go!
My mission was simple. Find a Margarita with fresh
ingredients and top shelf tequila that kept me interested past the first two
sips. I kept the order consistent—rocks with salt. Thanks to all the
well-seasoned bartenders who lovingly swirled, stirred and salted my test cases.
Your work was not in vain.
Gilberts—The best
Margarita in Los Angeles! Every batch is fresh squeezed and made to order. And
every luscious, tart, salty sip tastes like it. Their chips are a great
compliment, flash fried, warm and salted. Or munch on garlic and vinegar
marinated carrots and peppers. Arrive early, there are about four tables in the
bar area. And visit the ATM—Gilberts only accepts cash.
2526 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90405, (310) 450-8057
El Cholo—The
secret mixture is consistently balanced and strong! Again, get there early—it
gets crowded every night of the week. Stake your claim on one of the large
sofas and watch a game as you merrily sip away. Watch out, though, this
Margarita will creep up on you.
1025 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90401, (310) 899-1106
Lares—In May
2005, a kitchen fire put this neighborhood watering hole out of commission for
several months. My husband and I would drive by and gaze longingly at the
darkened restaurant until the glorious re-opening. The minute you walk in, you
are enfolded in the family. Theirs is a fuller, richer mix. Enjoy the live
music and authentic food—and of course, being a part of the celebration.
2909 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, California, (310)
829-4559
Border Grill—Served
in water tumblers, Border Grill is home of the decorator cocktail. This squeaky clean version is crisp and
light. Sneak one in for lunch along with the wonderful duck taquitos!
1445 4th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401, (310)
451-1655
Paco’s—Wander
past the salt-water aquariums, the women gently patting and grilling fresh
tortillas, plop down in a comfy bucket chair and prepare for a treat. The
Margaritas are skillfully created and complimented by buttery, pastry-like
flour tortillas. Yum!

Tricia Stewart Shiu, Award-Winning YA SciFi Fantasy Author, Shares Her Metaphysical Meeting With Spirit, MOA
When I was five, I was visited by a vision. I’ll never
forget it, I was running down the stairs and the entity, a girl with dark hair,
stopped me in my tracks. The spirit said that I would go through a deeply
challenging time in my life, but would resurface, later in life, with
unimaginable joy and fulfillment. That vision stayed with me. In middle school,
I would sit quietly at my desk adding up the years to figure out exactly when
my life would turn around.

challenging time in my life, but would resurface, later in life, with
unimaginable joy and fulfillment. That vision stayed with me. In middle school,
I would sit quietly at my desk adding up the years to figure out exactly when
my life would turn around.
And then I forgot. I moved to Los Angeles after college. I
got busy, my work and then, many, many years and moves around the city later,
the stress of family life took over and I was completely overwhelmed and in
desperate need of a vacation. My husband, daughter and I decided to go to
Hawaii.

the stress of family life took over and I was completely overwhelmed and in
desperate need of a vacation. My husband, daughter and I decided to go to
Hawaii.
When the plane landed in Honolulu, I remember feeling the
difference in the atmosphere as I disembarked. The air made me somehow,
remember that there was a part of me that
difference in the atmosphere as I disembarked. The air made me somehow,
remember that there was a part of me that
knew…something…what was it?
Never mind, I was in Hawaii it was time to see the sights!
So, I sped off to see Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach and then headed home for an
afternoon nap before an evening luau. As I drifted toward sleep, I heard my
name being called. In my mind’s eye, I saw a beautiful young woman with dark
hair, who said her name was Moaahuulikkiaaakea’o
Haanaapeekuluueehuehakipuunahe’e—Moa for short.

And then I remembered. Boy, did I remember. That final
experience sparked a spiritual journey that continues to this day. In fact, the
event and subsequent interactions with Moa (oh yes, they continued) opened the
door to my writing the award-winning YA SciFi Moa Series (MOA, STATUE OF KU and
IRON SHINTO) as well as the GATEKEEPER’S GUIDE SERIES.

IRON SHINTO) as well as the GATEKEEPER’S GUIDE SERIES.
It’s a little scary putting myself “out there” and I have found a world-wide kinship in sharing my truth through storytelling. Honestly, there have always been things I have known before they happened ever since I can remember. I used to write it off as a fluke or coincidence. I was skeptical until that incident in Hawaii with Moa, which essentially upended my complete understanding of how the world works, why I’m here and what I’m here to do.
Even as I write this, I am positive that some people, including close friends will be utterly shocked that I’m writing about and including myself in such an esoteric subject matter. I learned from a very young age, that it is much better to keep anything strange or unusual which is seen, heard, felt or sensed, to myself.
Funny, though, like anything else you try to hide, it comes out in other ways. People know that something is up, they just can’t figure out what and so everyone’s more uncomfortable than if it was just stated clearly.
During my journey of spiritual discovery, I received a degree in Psychology, studied mediumship, healing arts, energy work and discovered all kinds of interesting things about myself, like sometimes I know things that I couldn’t possibly know, I intuit information and blurt words out that only make sense to the person receiving them.
My biggest lesson throughout the years of metaphysical studies has been that we all possess these gifts, and much more, to some degree, and I have dedicated the rest of my existence to spreading that message. As frustrating as it is to hear, we all have the answers to those burning questions, deep within us and if we find them, we find our truest form of self-expression.
